How to Unlock LG G5 Bootloader: In-Depth Guide [European Model]

Official Bootloader Unlock Available for the European LG G5. You can easily unlock bootloader of the LG G5 H850 with the steps given below in this tutorial. Unlike some phones which guide you through the whole process of unlocking the bootloader and even provide programs to do so, LG G5's path is a bit tedious. You first need to Sign Up LG developer account to get bootloader unlock key and then proceed with the manual coding yourself. However, we have compiled the whole process in to little and easy to perform chunks. Don’t worry, you can easily unlock your bootloader and root your LG G5 using this tutorial.

LG G5 H850 have a fully optimized, certified and tested version of Android, and unlocking the bootloader may change the firmware. So, it is important that you take time to read and that you keep the following in mind before unlocking the bootloader to customize your device.

How to Unlock Bootloader on LG G5 H850 European Model :

We have put together a detailed step-by-step instructions guide on how to Unlock LG G5 Bootloader. This is a little bit complex tutorial. Please read the tutorial carefully. We request you to read the full tutorial twice before actually performing in your device.

To Remember :
  • This unlocking bootloader tutorial is only for LG G5 H850 European Variant. Please don’t try this on any other variants of LG G5.
  • This tutorial has been performed on Windows, but anyone familiar with Fastboot on Mac or Linux can perform this as well.
  • Make sure you backup all your data in your phone before proceeding as it will erase all data.
  • You will void your warranty by unlocking the bootloader.

Complete Step-by-Step Tutorial :

Step 1 : Sign Up and Login to LG developer Page here to start the bootloader unlock process.

Step 2 : Legal Terms will be displayed on your screen. After reading the terms, if you would like to continue to unlock the Bootloader, then click I Accept.

Step 3 : Your name and email address will be displayed. Check your name and email address.You need to verify your new email address. Verification Link will be sent to your mail.

Step 4 : Enter the first 15 digits of your phone’s IMEI number. You can check the IMEI number by entering *#06# on your phone dialer.

Step 5 : Download and install the latest Android SDK to your computer from the table below :

Important : Make sure to install Android SDK Platform-tools after installing SDK Manager:

Step 6 : Create a new folder (say: C:\tools) and copy the following files to the new folder:
  • Adb.exe
  • AdbWinApi.dll
  • Fastboot.exe 
You will find these three files from: sdk\platform-tools in your computer.

Step 7 : On your device, go into Settings > About and find the Build Number and tap on it 7 times to enable developer settings. Press back and go into Developer Options and enable USB debugging. (USB-Debugging is required for the commands “adb” and “fastboot” to work.)

Step 8 : Enable OEM unlock on your phone. Activating the "Enable OEM unlock" is necessary for the bootloader unlock. To enable OEM unlock, go to Settings >> Developer options and check Enable OEM unlock.

Step 9 : Now connect the phone to your PC using USB Cable and Enter the Unique Device ID of your phone. You can view the Device ID by the following steps:

Step 10 : Open the Folder from your Desktop where you have pasted three files in Step 6 and on Windows: Open Command Prompt (Shift + Right-click > Open Command Prompt). For Mac OS X and Linux, use Terminal to navigate to this directory.

Step 11 : Type the following command and press Enter :
adb reboot bootloader
You should now be in fastboot mode.

Step 12 : Again, type the following command and press Enter :
fastboot oem device-id
This fastboot command will return a character string. This is the Device ID which is needed to generate your unique unlock key.

To generate your unlock key, you will need to paste together the 2 lines of output into one continuous string without "(bootloader)" or white spaces. In the example above, the Device ID would be:
CD58B679A38D6B613ED518F37A05E013F93190BD558261DBBC5584E8EF8789B1 
Step 13 : Click Confirm. If your IMEI number and Device ID are valid, the bootloader unlock key will be sent to your email.

Step 14 : Download your bootloader unlock key to your phone by connecting your phone to PC using USB cable and type in the following command in Command Prompt and press Enter
adb reboot bootloader
Your phone will reboot into the fastboot mode. Now go to the directory where you downloaded your bootloader unlock key. Type the following command and press Enter :
fastboot flash unlock unlock.bin
“unlock.bin” is the bootloader unlock key you received in the email.

Step 15 :  Reboot your phone by entering the following command :
fastboot reboot
Step 16 : Disconnect your phone and reconnect again in your PC using a USB cable. Type the following command in Command Prompt and press Enter :
adb reboot bootloader
Your phone will reboot into the fastboot mode. You can check if the device is successfully unlocked by the following method :

Type the following command in Command Prompt and press Enter :
fastboot getvar unlocked
Verify that the response is "unlocked: yes"
