Update Nexus 6P to Android O OPP1 Factory Image [Developer Preview]

Android O OPP1 Developer Preview Factory Image is now available to Google Devices. Yes, Even before a keynote, Google has started to Roll out Developer Preview images for Nexus and Pixel Phones. This major Android release named as Android O OPP1 Developer Preview which is available to download. As, this is just an initial Developer Preview release, not all Android O features have been packed. For starter, large screen multitasking and battery is the key changes in Android O. You can have a look and feel of Android O by installing the Firmware on your Google Nexus 6P with this easy tutorial. As this is the very first Android O release by Google, there is no OTA available to update automatically. However, going forward, all OTA will be available soon as final O build. You can Manually update your Nexus 6P to Android O OPP1 Developer Preview Factory Image using the tutorial below. Even we have a tutorial on How to Root Nexus 6P on Android O firmware. The only problem you might face is that, if this is the first time you are playing with Factory Images, then you might need to Unlock the Bootloader first to install this Firmware. Also, installing a Developer Preview Factory Image may wipe all your data, so it is recommended to backup everything before installing the Firmware.

To Remember :
  • This tutorial is only for installing Android O OPP1 Factory Image on Huawei Nexus 6P. Please do not try on any other Nexus or Huawei variants.
  • Your phone can be on any previous Android version or even on a custom ROM. It doesn’t matter at all. This tutorial will still work for installing Android O Developer Preview.
  • Make Sure your computer should have Huawei USB driver installed properly.
  • This tutorial will wipe out all your data even if your bootloader is still locked or already unlocked. Make sure you backup all your data in your phone before proceeding.

Install Android O OPP1 Factory Image on Nexus 6P

We have put together a detailed step-by-step installation guide so that the first time users doesn't face any problem on installing Android O OPP1 Developer Preview on Nexus 6P using Factory Image provided by Google.

Please make sure your phone fulfils all the requirements and we recommend you to read this tutorial once before actually performing it on your device. In case you have problem in connecting your phone with computer, make sure USB driver for Huawei is properly installed.

Tutorial- Step-by-Step:

Step 1: Download Android O OPP1 Factory Image (angler-opp1.170223.012-factory-caec5ca2.zip) for Nexus 6P on your Computer.

Step 2: Connect your Nexus 6P to Computer using USB cable (provided by Huawei out of the Box).

Step 3: Download and install the latest Android SDK to your computer from below :

For Windows OS: Download For Max OS X: Download For Linux: Download

Important : Make sure to install Android SDK Platform-tools after installing SDK Manager:

Step 4: Now extract the downloaded file on the Desktop of your computer. Open the folder angler-opp1 and then copy/paste all the files to your Fastboot directory.

Confused with Fastboot Directory? Navigate to android-sdk-windows\platform-tools directory (on your computer).

Step 5: Switch Off your Phone.

Step 6: Now to get in the Bootloader/Fastboot Mode. Switch ON the phone while pressing and holding Volume Up + Volume Down + Power buttons together till you see a FASTBOOT menu and START on top.

Step 7: Open the Folder from your Desktop where you have pasted three files in Step 4 and on Windows: Open Command Prompt (Shift + Right-click > Open Command Prompt). For Mac OS X and Linux, use Terminal to navigate to this directory.

Step 8: From the factory image files in your Fastboot directory, do the following depending which OS you are on:

On Windows: Run the file “flash-all.bat”
On Mac: Run the file “flash-all.sh” using Terminal
On Linux: Run the file “flash-all.sh”

You are done! That's all you had to do for Flashing a Stock Factory Image on your Nexus 6P. Now, wait and watch as the process is completed and follow the On-Screen instruction if in case you have to unlock the Bootloader.

Your Nexus 6P will boot now and it might take about 5 minutes to boot on your first time after flashing a new Android O Developer Preview Firmware. So, please wait.

That’s it! Your Nexus 6P should now have Android O OPP! Developer Preview Factory Image installed on your phone! Go to Settings > About phone to verify.
