Update Google Pixel to Android O OPP1 Developer Preview [Factory Image]

Google has Officially released Android O OPP1 Developer Preview Factory Image for the Pixel phone. So, Pixel owner can now test the new upcoming Android O with a Factory Image officially provided by Google. This firmware is the first version of Android O with a major Google upgrade; the Pixel Smartphone will be seeing. This time Google especially focused on Efficiency, Battery Life and Multitasking. As this is just an initial Developer Preview release, it may contain some bugs, and all the Android O features are not Packed. However, the future update of this firmware from Google will surely bring a Stable Android O build. As this is a Developer Preview firmware, you will not get this firmware with automatic update via OTA (Over-the-Air). The only problem you might face is that, if this is the first time you are playing with Factory Images, then you might need to Unlock the Bootloader first to install this Firmware. Also, installing a Developer Preview Factory Image may wipe all your data, so it is recommended to backup everything before installing the Firmware. As a Nexus user, you have several options to choose from depending on how you want to store your data.

  • This tutorial is only for installing Android O OPP1 Factory Image on Google Pixel. Please do not try on any other Google variants.
  • Your phone can be on any previous Android version or even on a custom ROM. It doesn’t matter at all. This tutorial will still work for installing Android O Developer Preview.
  • Make Sure your computer should have Nexus USB driver installed properly.
  • This tutorial will wipe out all your data even if your bootloader is still locked or already unlocked. Make sure you backup all your data in your phone before proceeding.
NOTE: Make sure your Android device is charged up to 80-85% battery level. Why? Because, if your phone goes off suddenly while installing a custom ROM, flashing an official firmware update or installing mods, etc. — your phone might get bricked or go dead permanently. No one wants that, right?

Install Android O OPP1 on Google Pixel Using Official Factory Image

We have put together a detailed step-by-step installation guide so that the first time users doesn't face any problem on installing Android O OPP1 Developer Preview on Google Pixel using Factory Image provided by Google.

Please make sure your phone fulfils all the requirements and we recommend you to read this tutorial once before actually performing it on your device. In case you have problem in connecting your phone with computer, make sure USB driver for Google is properly installed.

Tutorial- Step-by-Step:

Step 1: Download Android O OPP1 Factory Image ( for Google Pixel on your Computer.

Step 2: Connect your Google Pixel to Computer using USB cable (provided by Google out of the Box).

Step 3: Download and install the latest Android SDK to your computer from below :

For Windows OS:  Download

For Max OS X:       Download

For Linux:              Download

Important : Make sure to install Android SDK Platform-tools after installing SDK Manager:

Step 4: Now extract the downloaded file on the Desktop of your computer. Open the folder marlin-opp1 and then copy/paste all the files to your Fastboot directory.

Confused with Fastboot Directory? Navigate to android-sdk-windows\platform-tools directory (on your computer).

Step 5: Switch Off your Phone.

Step 6: Now to get in the Bootloader/Fastboot Mode. Switch ON the phone while pressing and holding Volume Up + Volume Down + Power buttons together till you see a FASTBOOT menu and START on top.

Step 7: Open the Folder from your Desktop where you have pasted three files in Step 4 and on Windows: Open Command Prompt (Shift + Right-click > Open Command Prompt). For Mac OS X and Linux, use Terminal to navigate to this directory.

Step 8: From the factory image files in your Fastboot directory, do the following depending which OS you are on:

On Windows: Run the file “flash-all.bat”
On Mac: Run the file “” using Terminal
On Linux: Run the file “”

You are done! That's all you had to do for Flashing a Stock Factory Image on your Google Pixel. Now, wait and watch as the process is completed and follow the On-Screen instruction if in case you have to unlock the Bootloader.

Your Google Pixel will boot now and it might take about 5 minutes to boot on your first time after flashing a new Android O Developer Preview Firmware. So, please wait.

That’s it! Your Google Pixel should now have Android O OPP! Developer Preview Factory Image installed on your phone! Go to Settings > About phone to verify.
