Update Google Pixel XL to Android O OPP1 Developer Preview [Factory Image]

Google Pixel comes with Nougat out of the Box, and now you can update this phone to the latest Android O OPP1 Developer Preview firmware. The Brand new build from Google is now one step rise in improvement, mainly focusing on Battery life and Multitasking. Google has released the very first Developer Preview build for Google Pixel XL. A Factory Image is available to flash on Pixel XL for upgrading to Android O OPP1 Developer Preview. As, this is just an initial Developer Preview release, not all Android O features have been packed. However, this firmware gives a brief idea of Android O and Developers can test this to check out the newest features of Android O for Apps. You can have a look and feel of Android O by installing the Firmware on your Google Pixel XL with this easy tutorial. As this is the very first Android O release by Google, there is no OTA available to update automatically. However, going forward, once this firmware is installed, further updates may come as OTA (Over-the-Air). To Remember :
  • This tutorial is only for installing Android O OPP1 Factory Image on Google Pixel XL. Please do not try on any other Google variants.
  • Your phone can be on any previous Android version or even on a custom ROM. It doesn’t matter at all. This tutorial will still work for installing Android O Developer Preview.
  • Make Sure your computer should have Pixel USB driver installed properly.
  • This tutorial will wipe out all your data even if your bootloader is still locked or already unlocked. Make sure you backup all your data in your phone before proceeding.

Install Android O OPP1 on Pixel XL Using Official Factory Image

We have put together a detailed step-by-step installation guide so that the first time users doesn't face any problem on installing Android O OPP1 Developer Preview on Google Pixel XL using Factory Image provided by Google.

Please make sure your phone fulfils all the requirements and we recommend you to read this tutorial once before actually performing it on your device. In case you have problem in connecting your phone with computer, make sure USB driver for Google is properly installed.

Tutorial- Step-by-Step:

Step 1: Download Android O OPP1 Factory Image (marlin-opp1.170223.012-factory-476ea53f.zip)) for Google Pixel XL on your Computer.

Step 2: Connect your Google Pixel XL to Computer using USB cable (provided by Google out of the Box).

Step 3: Download and install the latest Android SDK to your computer from below :

For Windows OS:  Download
For Max OS X:      Download
For Linux:              Download

Important : Make sure to install Android SDK Platform-tools after installing SDK Manager:

Step 4: Now extract the downloaded file on the Desktop of your computer. Open the folder marlin-opp1 and then copy/paste all the files to your Fastboot directory.

Confused with Fastboot Directory? Navigate to android-sdk-windows\platform-tools directory (on your computer).

Step 5: Switch Off your Phone.

Step 6: Now to get in the Bootloader/Fastboot Mode. Switch ON the phone while pressing and holding Volume Up + Volume Down + Power buttons together till you see a FASTBOOT menu and START on top.

Step 7: Open the Folder from your Desktop where you have pasted three files in Step 4 and on Windows: Open Command Prompt (Shift + Right-click > Open Command Prompt). For Mac OS X and Linux, use Terminal to navigate to this directory.

Step 8: From the factory image files in your Fastboot directory, do the following depending which OS you are on:

On Windows: Run the file “flash-all.bat”
On Mac: Run the file “flash-all.sh” using Terminal
On Linux: Run the file “flash-all.sh”

You are done! That's all you had to do for Flashing a Stock Factory Image on your Google Pixel XL. Now, wait and watch as the process is completed and follow the On-Screen instruction if in case you have to unlock the Bootloader.

Your Google Pixel XL will boot now and it might take about 5 minutes to boot on your first time after flashing a new Android O Developer Preview Firmware. So, please wait.

That’s it! Your Google Pixel XL should now have Android O OPP! Developer Preview Factory Image installed on your phone! Go to Settings > About phone to verify.
