HOW TO: Install TWRP Custom Recovery on Xiaomi Redmi Note 4

We have put the detailed step-by-step procedure to Install Official TWRP Custom Recovery on Redmi Note 4 via Command Prompt. If you used to install Official Updates on Xiaomi MI Device via Command Prompt, then this should not be any different for you. Please make sure to read the tutorial once before actually performing it on your device so that nothing goes wrong.
To Remember:
  1. This tutorial is only for Xiaomi Redmi Note 4. Please don’t try this on any other variants of the phone.
  2. This TWRP 3.1.0 (or Newer) Recovery works with Android 6.0.1 and all future Android updates.
  3. Make sure you backup all your data in your phone before proceeding.

Full Step-By-Step Instructions:

Step 1: Download and install the latest Android SDK (Fastboot / ADB package) to your computer from below :

Step 2: Connect your Redmi Note 4 to Computer using USB cable (provided by Xiaomi out of the Box).
Step 3: Download Official TWRP for Redmi Note 4 (twrp-mido.img) and save it into the same directory as the extracted Fastboot/ADB package files.
Step 4: Navigate to the same directory now as where you have Fastboot (i.e. Step 1) and on Windows: Open Command Prompt (Shift + Right-click > Open Command Prompt). For Mac OS X and Linux, use Terminal to navigate to this directory.

Step 5: Type in the following command and press Enter.

 adb reboot bootloader

Step 6: Wait for your phone to boot into bootloader mode. You can boot your phone in bootloader mode by pressing and holding Volume Up + Power key.

Step 7: Once your phone is in bootloader mode, type in the following command and press Enter.

fastboot flash recovery (twrp file name).img

For Example, type fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.1.0-0-mido.img (if the file name is twrp-3.1.0-0-mido.img).

That’s it! the TWRP recovery is now installed on your Xiaomi Redmi Note 4. You can enter Recovery Mode (TWRP recovery) by pressing and holding the Volume Down + Power keys together.

You can now reboot your phone by touching the reboot option in TWRP.

That’s it! Your Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 has now been flashed with the Latest TWRP. To enter Recovery Mode, shut down phone and then hold down the Power + Volume Down buttons for about 5 seconds.
